Course Description: This hands-on course equips contractors, roofers, and installers with the skills to install VELUX SUN TUNNEL® Skylights confidently and efficiently. Participants will learn to properly choose, measure, position, and install both rigid and flexible tunnel systems, apply proper installation techniques, and troubleshoot common issues such as misalignment, and condensation. Classroom instruction combined with practical hands-on ensures installers gain the knowledge and confidence to deliver high-quality, professional SUN TUNNEL® Skylight installations.

Learning Objectives

By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

Identify different types of VELUX SUN TUNNEL® Skylights and their components.

Properly position VELUX SUN TUNNEL® Skylights on roofs, ceilings and desired locations

Measure, mark, and prepare roof openings and ceilings for SUN TUNNEL® installation.

Install roof flashing, tunnel sections, and ceiling diffuser correctly.

  • 1. Instruction
    • Product overview: what is SUN TUNNEL® Skylights and why should we install them
    • VELUX SUN TUNNEL® Skylights fundamentals. Rigid vs. Flexible
    • Components overview: Dome, flashing kit, tunnel sections, elbows, diffuser
    • Roof compatibility: Shingle, tile, metal, flat vs. pitched
    • Light performance considerations (length of tunnel, rigid vs. flexible, bends/elbows)
    • Preparation and placement: roof to ceiling alignment, attic obstructions, and spacing. Determining best location (roof + ceiling alignment)

  • 2. Installation – Hands On
    • Interior prep. Marking roof and ceiling openings
    • Cutting roof deck, shingles/metal, and drywall safely
    • Installing the roof flashing with correct roofing material integration
    • Shingle/metal roof considerations
    • Connecting tunnel sections (rigid &. flexible)
    • Adjusting elbows and angles to avoid attic obstructions
    • Taping joints to prevent condensation, bugs/debris
    • Installing the ceiling ring and diffuser from interior
    • Reestablishing the thermal break
