Sunscreening accessories are attached to the frame or sash with our Pick&Click! mounting brackets. The sunscreening material is held next to the glass area with side rails.

VELUX does not recommend the addition of any store-bought film to the glass of our skylights. The addition of store-bought film or tint will void the warranty on the glass. However, our glass is manufactured with a LoE coating and injected with Argon gas that makes our skylights very energy efficient. In addition, we also offer several sunscreening options that can be added to our skylights and roof windows to regulate light and heat.

VELUX offers tempered glass and laminated safety glass. Other special glass options are also available such as impact glass for hurricane prone areas and white laminated glass for commercial applications. Please refer to the website for additional glazing.

Yes, insect screens are included with Fresh Air skylights and are available separately for all of our roof windows. To ensure that you receive the correct new or replacement screen for your window, please obtain the serial number from that unit. If you have any questions regarding this, contact customer service at 800-888-3589.

All current skylight and roof window units are a neutral grey color that blends well with most roofing materials. However, copper cladding is available upon request for deck mounted skylights and select roof windows.
The only VELUX skylights that can be installed sideways are the fixed curb mounted skylights (FCM)and fixed pan-flashed skylights (QPF). All VELUX deck-mounted and other units and flashing systems have a "true top" and are not to be installed sideways. If deck-mounted or other units are installed sideways, the warranty on the product will be void.

VELUX can make some custom-sized skylights that vary from the standard sizes shown in the price guide. We can also make many custom sizes for the FCM curb mounted skylight. Please contact customer service at 800-888-3589 for specific details.

Each of our flashing kits are engineered with specific pitch requirements. The roof pitch is important because it ensures that the roof has the proper slope to effectively drain water off of both the flashing and the skylight. The roof pitch and the roofing material used are both important in determining the type of flashing needed.

Clouding or fogging of an insulating glass unit occurs when there is a break in the inner seal between the glass panes. As a result, condensation forms between the two panes. Units manufactured after January 1, 2000, have a 20-year seal warranty. If you encounter a problem with the seal of your glass, obtain the serial number from the roof window or skylight and contact VELUX. We will be glad to help you determine if your product warranty is still in effect and guide you in whatever actions can be taken to correct the issue with the seal.

Replacement glass is available and it can be easily installed in most models. On Fresh Air skylights manufactured after April of 1996, the entire operating sash must be replaced. If glass replacement is needed for the FCM and QPF, the skylight lens can quickly and easily be replaced.

All sizes open approximately 11 inches.

  • Manual "Fresh Air" Skylights

    Manual "Fresh Air" skylight questions

No. It would be necessary to replace the fixed skylight with a ventilating unit.

All current skylight and roof window units are a neutral grey color that blends well with most roofing materials. However, copper cladding is available upon request for deck mounted skylights and select roof windows.

The copper portion of the description refers to the cladding on the unit. Instead of being the standard aluminum cladding, the unit is manufactured with copper cladding. The laminated glass is the same in this unit as it is in any other unit. The copper only refers to the cladding material. The corner keys on copper skylights remain our standard neutral grey color, which blends well once the copper naturally patinas on the roof. When you order a copper clad skylight it is also important to order the copper flashing as well.

No. VELUX manufactures only dual pane, argon gas filled, LoE coated, flat glass skylights for most heated and cooled spaces, such as homes. The glass used in VELUX products is very energy efficient and does not deteriorate like the plastic in bubbles or domes. A range of VELUX commercial skylights are made of durable, energy efficient plastic double-domes due to the typical large opening size required in these type applications.

A roof window is a unit designed for an installation that is within reach. The roof window sash can be pivoted so the homeowner can clean the exterior pane of glass from inside the home. Some larger roof window models meet building code requirements for egress (emergency escape). Many times roof windows are installed in attics being used as living space. Skylights, on the other hand, are usually installed in "out-of-reach" applications.

We do have some special glass options available. The lead time on units with special glass is 4 to 8 weeks. You can inquire about glazing options with your local dealer, or contact our Customer Service Department at 800-88-VELUX.

Yes. VELUX manufactures  a wide range of plastic-glazed, aluminum-framed skylights, primarily for the commercial building market that requires larger opening sizes than single panel glass units can accommodate. However, the glass used in VELUX products intended for homes is safer, much more energy efficient, and is less affected by the sun’s damaging rays, when compared to the plastic used in bubbles or domes.

We do have some special glass options available. The lead time on units with special glass is 4 to 8 weeks. You can inquire about glazing options with your local dealer, or contact our customer service department at 800-88-VELUX.

  • SUN TUNNEL® Skylights

    Flexible SUN TUNNEL® skylight questions

The flexible tunnel consists of a double layer of metalized polyester film with a double inner layer of reinforced aluminum Sola-film and a highly reflective ultraviolet-proof laminate. The dome is made of UV stabilized Grade-One acrylic (or polycarbonate where debris resistance is needed). By improving upon the flexible tube technology used for years in the heating and air conditioning industries, we've created a way to bend sunlight around attic obstructions to create the most cost effective and energy efficient skylight system available in the United States.

The flexible tunnel VELUX SUN TUNNEL skylight is the simplest and fastest way available to install any tubular daylighting device. It bends easily around attic obstructions like pipes and wires making alignment between the roof and ceiling simple.

Our VELUX SUN TUNNEL skylights come with a 10-year warranty. For a complete overview of all product warranties, visit our Warranty Info section.

TMF and TGF SUN TUNNELS skylights are designed for shingle or shake roofs with pitches from 15° to 60°. Tile roofs require a TTF or TTR SUN TUNNEL skylight, which can be special ordered through your dealer.

Flexible VELUX SUN TUNNEL skylights are available in two different sizes for rigid and flexible models. In all, there are three different sizes: a 14-inch diameter fits between 16" on center framing; a 21-inch diameter fits between 24" on center framing (flexible and commercial only).

The dome, flashing, tunnel, hardware and everything needed for a complete roof-to-ceiling installation (including step-by-step instructions and labels) are all included. There are no tools included in the kit.

Yes! All VELUX SUN TUNNEL skylights are ENERGY STAR® qualified

Eight feet of tunnel is included in the standard kit for TGF/TMF 014 and 6' of tunnel is included in standard kit for TGF 021. If you need more, please contact your dealer. Maximum recommended tunnel length for 014 size is 8' and for 022 021 size is 12'. Taping tunnel lengths together is not recommended.

TGF and TMF are designed for roof pitches 14- 60 degrees (3:12 - 20:12) and for asphalt shingles and wooden shingles up to 5/16" (8 mm) thick. The tile kits ZTG and ZTM (available separately), expand the use of TGF and TMF to include profiled roofing materials (tiles) with maximum 1 ¾" (45 mm) profile height.

    Rigid SUN TUNNEL® skylight questions

Rigid tunnel VELUX SUN TUNNEL skylights are available in three different sizes: 10-inch diameter (TGR and TMR); the 14-inch diameter, which fits between 16" on center framing (TGR and TMR); and the 22-inch diameter, which fits between 24" on center framing (TCC or TGC)

A precise answer depends on many factors including the roof orientation (i.e. the south is always best), tunnel length, tunnel angles, time of day, season of the year, etc. However, generally the 10 and 14-inch diameter TGR and TMR units are best for lighting up bathrooms, halls, walk-in closets and areas up to 10' x 10'. The 22-inch diameter TCC or TGC model is perfect for lighting larger areas. The same size rigid tunnel will always transmit more light than a flexible tunnel of the same size, length and configuration.

TGR and TMR are designed for asphalt shingles and wooden shingles up to 5/16" (8 mm) thick and roof pitches between 14°- 60° (3:12 - 20:12). The tile kits ZTG and ZTM (available separately), expand the use of TGR and TMR to include profiled roofing materials (tiles) with maximum 1 ¾" (45 mm) profile height.
The dome, flashing, tunnel, hardware and everything needed for a complete roof-to-ceiling installation (including step-by-step instructions and labels) are all included. There are no tools included in the kit.

Our VELUX SUN TUNNEL skylights come with a 10-year warranty. For a complete overview of all product warranties, visit our Warranty Info section.

Yes! The TGR and TMR are 2010 ENERGY STAR® qualified.

Winter time means that lots of us get stuck indoors at home and work. Studies show that natural, full-spectrum sunlight greatly contributes to increased productivity in the workplace and to an overall feeling of well-being. Sunlight deprivation can lead to a condition that experts call "Seasonal Affective Disorder," also known as S.A.D. or the winter blahs. By bringing light from the sun into your house, or home office, a VELUX SUN TUNNEL skylight can help you beat these depressing feelings and emotions.

  • Controls

    Controls questions

RF technology does not require a line of sight to operate like our current remotes do. They also have a much larger range so the remote will be able to operate the skylight even if the user is in another room.

    Yes

Each KLR 200 remote can operate any combination of up to 200 VELUX electric skylights and shades. Products can be controlled individually or all at once from anywhere in the house.
"Registering" your skylight(s) creates a link between the skylight and the remote control. That link means the only remote control that will open a particular skylight is the remote to which that skylight is "Registered".
    Approximately 1 year.
Up to 110 yards unobstructed (about the length of a football field). Typical range is about 30' depending on building construction.
This limits the opportunity for another remote control to be accidentally programmed to operate your skylight. If your neighbor installs skylights at exactly the same time as you, and lives close enough for the RF (radio frequency) signal to reach your skylight, they can potentially register your skylight as well as theirs. It is highly unlikely that two skylights in different homes will be powered at the same time and the products registered with the 10-minute time limit.
All your pre-programmed commands will be erased and the remote will return to its factory settings.
Models VSE and VCE come with a rain sensor as standard to ensure that your skylight automatically closes when it rains.
  • Flashing Systems

    Flashing systems questions

For skylights, COMBI-FLASHING is available for side-to-side spacings of 2 1/2" (minimum) to 12" (maximum), in 1/2 inch increments. Over and under spacings must be 4" from wood frame to wood frame.

For roof windows however, the frame to frame spacing is only available in 4" dimensions for both side to side and over-under. Please contact us for further details.

This depends on the size of the skylights being installed. A roll of ZOZ 216 adhesive underlayment is 21 feet long and 9 inches wide.

Each of our flashing kits are engineered with specific pitch requirements. The roof pitch is important because it ensures that the roof has the proper slope to effectively drain water off of both the flashing and the skylight. The roof pitch and the roofing material used are both important in determining the type of flashing needed.

VELUX roof windows and skylights use flashing kits that are specific to their roof pitch and roofing material requirements. Provided the proper VELUX flashing system is used and installed correctly, we will stand behind the product against leaks. The unique construction of VELUX flashings ensures safe drainage of rainwater coming from the roof above the window, providing complete weather tightness and preventing leakage. Because the roofing material covers both top and sides, VELUX flashings are largely unobtrusive.

VELUX flashings are compatible with virtually any type of roofing material, from standard covers such as shingles, slate, and tile to corrugated sheeting or even thatch.

VELUX undertakes extensive testing to ensure that all products perform to the very highest standards. Flashings are put through some of the world's most severe artificial rain and wind tests.

VELUX COMBI-FLASHING® is engineered for this purpose. However, the pitch of the roof must be 14° (3:12) or greater. EKL COMBI-FLASHING is designed for thinner roofing materials (shingles, shakes), an EKW COMBI-FLASHING is for higher profile materials (Spanish tile). Please contact us for more information.
